Privacy & cookie policy
This policy explains what personal data BuildRight UK collects, how Google uses cookies to serve ads on this site, and the choices and rights you have.
Last updated 15 October 2026
1. Who we are
This website, BuildRight UK (“we”, “us”), is the data controller for personal data collected through this site. You can contact us about privacy at hello@buildrightuk.co.uk. We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
2. Information we collect
- Information you send us. If you email us or use the contact form (which opens your own email app), we receive your name, email address and message.
- Checker inputs. The dimensions and answers you enter into our planning checkers are processed entirely in your browser. They are not sent to our servers or stored by us.
- Technical data. Our hosting provider automatically records server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, date and time) to keep the site secure and working.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Set by Google and its advertising partners when ads are shown – see section 4.
3. How and why we use your data
| Purpose | Data | Lawful basis (UK GDPR Art. 6) |
|---|---|---|
| Replying to your enquiry or correction | Name, email, message | Legitimate interests |
| Operating and securing the website | Server logs | Legitimate interests |
| Showing personalised advertising | Cookie identifiers, device and usage data | Consent |
| Showing non-personalised advertising, fraud prevention and frequency capping | Limited cookie and device data | Consent (where cookies are used) / legitimate interests |
4. Cookies and Google AdSense advertising
This website uses Google AdSense, an advertising service provided by Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC, to display ads. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites on the internet.
The Google DoubleClick DART cookie
Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies – including the DoubleClick DART cookie – to serve ads to visitors based on their visits to this and other sites. The DART cookie enables Google and its partners to show you ads that are more relevant to you, to limit the number of times you see an ad, and to measure ad effectiveness. You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie for interest-based advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings.
Personalised and non-personalised ads
- Personalised ads use information such as your browsing history and interests to select ads that are more relevant to you. In the UK we only serve personalised ads where you have given consent.
- Non-personalised ads are selected using contextual information (such as the topic of the page you are reading) and your general location (for example, your city), not your browsing history. They may still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
Consent
When advertising is active, a consent message from a Google-certified Consent Management Platform asks you on your first visit whether you agree to cookies for personalised advertising. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the “Privacy & cookie settings” link displayed on the site. If you decline, you may still see non-personalised ads.
Third-party vendors
Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and use cookies under Google’s policies. For details of how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and How Google uses cookies in advertising.
How to opt out
- Turn off personalised advertising in Google Ad Settings (also reachable at google.com/settings/ads).
- Opt out of interest-based ads from participating companies at youronlinechoices.com/uk or aboutads.info.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may affect how some websites work.
Other cookies
BuildRight UK does not currently use analytics cookies. Our planning checkers work without cookies or browser storage. If we add analytics in future, we will update this policy and ask for consent where required.
5. Sharing your data
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers who help us run the site – our web host, our email provider and Google (for advertising) – and where required by law. Google acts as an independent controller for some advertising data; its privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
6. International transfers
Some providers, including Google, may process data outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are protected by UK adequacy regulations, the International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How long we keep data
- Emails and enquiries: up to 24 months, then deleted unless needed for an ongoing matter.
- Server logs: kept by our host for up to 30 days.
- Advertising cookies: retention is controlled by Google and its partners and is explained in their policies; you can delete cookies at any time.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased in certain circumstances;
- restrict or object to our processing, including processing based on legitimate interests;
- data portability;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal.
To exercise any right, email hello@buildrightuk.co.uk. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
9. Children
This website is intended for adults planning home improvements. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example when we change advertising or analytics providers. The “last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
